Recently a report has been published by the international energy agency (IEA) for the purposes of the importance of the nuclear power plants in the climate goals. FORATOM is the association with headquarters in Brussels for the nuclear energy industry in Europe and that has as main objective to promote the use of nuclear energy in Europe, gives his opinion on the extent of maintaining the nuclear energy to meet the challenges related to climate change.

Currently, nuclear energy is a topic of conversation very important for the development of the next few years. FORATOM is in agreement with the report of the IEA, because it confirms that nuclear energy will help the EU and the world to achieve in the future in an environment low in carbon. FORATOM believes that by 2050 a quarter of the electricity produced should come from the nuclear if the EU wants to decarbonise its energy system and at the same time, to ensure the energy supply. Effectively, nuclear energy will be needed to go toward clean energy and reduce your carbon footprint in the world.
However, despite the fact that nuclear energy has many advantages, it represents a lot of expenses. The report reiterates that nuclear energy has a lack of financial support which has led to a decrease in the development of the same over the past years. It is essential to know that without help, the shift to a clean energy will be more difficult and more expensive. In addition, nuclear energy is not considered on an equal footing with other energy sources with low carbon emissions, nor rewarded for their advantages.
Finally, the report lists various policy recommendations that should be implemented to maintain the nuclear energy. It is important to remember that a decrease of the nuclear cause billions of tonnes of additional carbon emissions.
